Noah Webster (1758–1843) Noah Webster is recognized by most Americans today primarily because of the dictionary that bears his name. However, he also directly impacted the areas of law, politics, government, and especially education (for which he has been titled “America’s Schoolmaster”). Noah was raised in rural Connecticut, and in 1774, his father—who had only a limited education—mortgaged the farm to raise the money to send his son to Yale.
